Our cute Kaylee had a very successful day of 1st grade yesterday (Tuesday, 30 August). She came home and told us all about new friends, recess, the computer lab, music time, and eating lunch at school. Here's to a great year of school!

Irene Adventure
In the face of Hurricane Irene, we opted for flight rather than fight, and enjoyed a weekend trip a few hours from home in Hagerstown, MD.
Our adventure included . . .
When we returned home Monday afternoon we found that all was well and no damage had been done by Irene.
Our adventure included . . .
Swimming,
Napping,
Coloring,
Sleeping in big beds,
Eating out,
(Can you guess which restaurant we were at?)

Seeing Kelly and Ashley,
(Cousins of Russ who drove up from DC)

Playing Book of Mormon WHO,
and hiding our most valuable possessions in the hotel room safe.
When we returned home Monday afternoon we found that all was well and no damage had been done by Irene.

The Long and Short of It
We took Kaylee to the salon this week to get her before-school-begins haircut. Ashly was sitting in an unoccupied chair watching the cut taking place when she suddenly called me over and asked:
"Mom, what if I get short hair?"
WHAT?!?!
The pride of Ashlyn's life has been her long hair. We comment multiple times per week about its length, and how much it has grown overnight, etc. She has often talked about how she wants her hair to grow as long as Rapunzel's. But, motivated by her older sister's example (getting a haircut looks like a fun time, right?), she changed her mind.
And so, here she is . . . (sorry I don't have any "before" pictures - I obviously had no idea I would need them)
And here's Kaylee's new 'do . . .

Another One Bites the Dust
Kaylee lost her first tooth about a year ago, and the second one came out a few weeks later.
Number three waited until June of this year, and wiggly number four (pictured below) hung on until the end of July.
Number five bit the dust after church today, with a little help from Dad and some dental floss.
The Burnett family tooth fairy trades out the old teeth for a crisp one dollar bill.
Apparently that's not quite good enough for Kaylee though, since the note she left under her pillow tonight requested a TEN dollar bill. I'm sorry to say, she will definitely be disappointed when she wakes up in the morning. :)
