Brenna's Bracelets

Brenna has decided that anything she can fit on her wrist makes a good candidate for a bracelet.
And the nominees are . . .

a small doll's wardrobe

and a pair of Ashlyn's underwear.
(Unfortunately, this particular pair did not come from the clean clothes pile.)

Father's Day 2011

We have church at 8:30 AM, so doing breakfast in bed for Russ on Father's Day wasn't a particularly good option this year. Instead, we made him a nice breakfast Saturday morning.

He shared his bacon. And his grapefruit juice (a.k.a. yucky juice).

Sunday afternoon we gave Russ his gifts.
Brenna gave him cereal bowls to atone for the bowl she broke earlier this year.

Ashlyn and Kaylee got to choose their gifts from the dollar store.
Ashlyn gave him some blue (his favorite color) Gatorade , which he shared.

And Kaylee gave him some Gummy Lifesavers, which he shared.
(Sense a theme?)

We are so thankful for a wonderful Daddy!!!

Contrary to popular opinion,

or Ashlyn's opinion, it is NOT, in fact, a good idea to continue chewing your gum while it is stuck in your hair.

Luckily for her, ice cubes, shampoo, a brush, a comb, and a VERY patient mother managed to salvage most of her hair. (Ashlyn prides herself on her "long hair", and would be devastated if it was cut short.)

I know, it's completely disgusting.

Needless to say, Ashlyn will NOT be chewing gum any time soon.

Kindergarten Graduation

Kaylee's elementary school does a really nice kindergarten graduation program each year. All the children parade in, sing multiple songs up on the stage, and receive their diplomas.

A friend of mine who has been to the program in past years warned me that the tears would flow, and she was right. It was very sweet, and Kaylee did an awesome job. She loves to sing, and she sang all the words and did all the right actions.

Find the girl in a pink dress on the front row, then go up two rows and you'll see Kaylee.
Exiting the stage after receiving her diploma.
Parading out of the auditorium (the boy in front of Kaylee got caught in an awkward pose, but Kaylee looks cute.)
Kaylee with her diploma.
She requested a special lunch in honor of graduation.
Ashlyn ate two bites of pizza, two baby carrots, and two whole brownies. Oh well.
Brenna spent her time licking ranch dressing off her carrot.

These links to a few of the graduation songs will probably only interest grandparents.

We always love the first week of June

and all the birthday fun it brings to our house. This year was no exception in the category of fun. The girls decided to celebrate together this year ("Because we're sisters!" in Ashlyn's words) - meaning opening presents and doing cakes at the same time.

We let them open their presents for one another on Monday morning
(no surprise they each chose a Barbie/princess to give)

and saved all the rest until after dinner that night.

Both girls requested a "Hello Kitty" cake this year.
(I usually put a little more effort into my cakes, but doing two at the same time is a lot, and I was feeling lazy. The girls still loved them.)

And Brenna loved the chocolate ice cream.

Tuesday brought more fun, with dinner at Wendy's.
(In Ashlyn's case, wandering around Wendy's while listening - or perhaps not listening - to her parents encourage her to eat.)

Then off to the evening's main event: Chuck E. Cheese!

For Ashlyn't 5th and final ride on the horse she decided sitting side-saddle would be most appropriate. (P.S. When she put on her new dress and looked in the mirror that morning she said, "Hmm, I look like . . . a train helper.")

And Kaylee, dressed appropriately in her new "Rock Star" T-shirt, was our little Guitar Hero(ine).

A happy crew headed home after another wonderful year of birthday celebrations.

Hooray for National Donut Day!

We always love a good reason to enjoy a yummy treat. The girls and I celebrated by picking up donuts after school and chowing down at the park (we proceeded to work off the newly acquired calories by playing hard for an hour).

Here's a link to the Wikipedia article, if you'd care the know the origin of the holiday: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Donut_Day.
