Gaming

Russ and I are not serious gamers (though he does insist on pulling out the original Nintendo at his parents house to play R.B.I. Baseball whenever we visit, and I did have some mad Tetris skills in my day).

However, we recently acquired an XBox 360 and we (mostly Russ) have enjoyed playing video games again.

Russ plays Major League Baseball 2K10 on his own, and he plays LEGO Indiana Jones with the girls.

Playing "with" the girls translates to Russ working the controller while Kaylee and Ashlyn tell him which way he should go and what he should do to complete the missions.

Kaylee and Ashlyn's favorite game isn't actually a "game" at all. They just love re-doing their personal avatars.

Kaylee usually makes her avatar look similar to herself.

Ashlyn . . . not so much.

Russ helped out with mine. Hence, the Barça jersey.

Russ enjoyed creating his avatar almost as much as
the girls enjoyed seeing it for the first time.
(It strikes me as a cross between Beethoven and Einstein.)

  1. This is hilarious! Thanks for sharing. JJ's really into the lego games too--we play them free online since we're not cool enough to have an xbox...yet... :)

  2. Just one question I have... what is an avitar?! It feels good to see some play time going on in Russ' life!

  4. While I complement Anne for her impressive (and correct) use of the çedilla in "Barça," her avatar is actually wearing the Spain national team's jersey.

It's not easy to find things I can do with the girls that we all enjoy equally. For whatever reason my attention span for all things Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Ariel, etc. just isn't that high. The XBox has filled that void perfectly. We'll spend an hour-plus playing a couple of nights a week, and it's nice to have something on hand that's a guaranteed win for a good time together.

  5. Ummm, I'm not too sure about Russ' avatar... looks a bit like a cross dresser ;-)

  6. That is hilarious! Our kids do the same thing, they'll beg to play Lego Star Wars and then just watch Morgan play for an hour.
